About the Treverton One-Name Study

My name is Larry Treverton and I have been actively involved in a worldwide one-name study of the TREVERTON family surname for the past 8 years. I am assuming that if you have taken the time to navigate your way to this web page that you are either a TREVERTON by birth or marriage or you have an ancestral record of the surname in your own family tree. If this assumption is correct then I would very much enjoy hearing from you. All inquiries are most welcome and additional information is eagerly sought and freely exchanged. While I continue to research the existence of anyone bearing the TREVERTON surname I am also in contact with TREVERTON families throughout the world that are looking for that elusive ancestor that will permit their family tree to be joined with that of another. Your information could be the missing link that someone has been searching for.

My worldwide research study began early in 1996 and my TREVERTON database currently contains references to over 5,000 Treverton related events, (births, marriages, deaths, events, etc.). These occurrences span a period of 500 years and are extracted from both public and private databases in 8 different countries. As part of my project I spend an enjoyable amount of time 'Researching All Things TREVERTON' including historical events, family stories, book references, photographs, place names, and of course people.

Origin of the surname

TREVERTON is an old and highly respected Cornish surname that has been traced through written documentation to the early part of the 16th century. There are several published references relating to the surname's origin but thus far none have proved conclusive.

The earliest written account of the surname can be found in the International Genealogical Index (IGI), which has a baptismal record of Constance TREVERTON christened on 16 December 1571 in Redruth, Cornwall. Her father is identified as Thomas Treverton with an estimated date of birth to be circa 1550 or earlier. So far I have been unable to discover any further TREVERTON surname references prior to this timeframe. If anyone can provide documentation around or prior to this account, an e-mail would be greatly appreciated.
