I began the Samble one-name study in 2004, out of an interest in some of my earlier ancestors. There is not as yet a dedicated website, but I do hope to eventually publish one.
The registered variants are Sambles, Sambel, Sambels, Sambell, and Sambells. I also collect the much less frequent occurences of Sambal and Sambol, although it is not yet certain if they are variants, misspellings, or separate lines. I also have a very small store of information on the surname Sambleson, but have not yet found any connection.
The earliest instances I have found so far are in Cornwall. An earlier French origin has been suggested to me, but I have not yet been able to research that in depth.
The database currrently includes: all British IGI entries (record extractions only); U.S. census through 1870; GRO births, marriages, and deaths through 2005; and the UK census through 1871. There are also a few miscellaneous items such as obituaries, Social Security Death Index listings, etc.
