My name is Richard Hyland and my grandmother's maiden name was Rata.
I have been researching my family history for over 30 years and joined the Guild in 2000 when I started to concentrate on the Rata family.
It is believed that my Rata family name was originally Ratat and that they came from Normandy, in France, in the mid 17th Century. In time the 't' at the end of the name was lost and became Rata.
