About the study

Molen is a very rare surname indeed and should not be confused with the more common surname of Van der Molen. Although research into the Molen name has been in progress for more than thirty years, it's only recently that it has been officially registered as a one-name study.

Known variants of the surname include Molan, Molin, Mollan, Mollen, Molon and Mowlen.

Name origin

The surname Molen is of English origin, whereas the surname Van der Molen is of Dutch origin and is connected with the Dutch word for 'windmill.'
