Historical occurrences of the name

There are not many famous Gatwards. However if you visit Hitchin, Hertfordshire you should visit the jewellers shop - Gatwards of Hitchin. This shop was opened in 1760 by James Gatward and is still owned by the Gatward family today. Not my line, unfortunately.

Name frequency

In 1881 there were 382 ocurrences of the GATWARD name (ranked 8052). By 1998 there are 457 occurrences (ranked 9460).

Data

I hold a database of all Gatward births and marriages up to 1935. And am currently working on the deaths. The census lists are a longer term project
