About the Edmed One-Name Study

The Edmed One-Name Study was started as a result of collecting all the Edmed information we came across from when we began researching our own Edmed line in 1992.

In 1998 it was decided that by registering the name Edmed as a study, the research would not be wasted and could benefit other Edmeds. There would be central point of contact for people researching Edmed for generations to come.

The database is now over 2000 entries, although the same Edmed may appear two or three times from different records.

Origin of the surname

Edmed is believed to be a Saxon name derived from the baptismal name Eadmede meaning humble, from the olde english 'eade' meaning self-effacing and 'mede' meaning of mind.
