Crozier One-Name Study

This study is no longer registered with the Guild, but this profile page has been retained at the member's request. Please note that neither officers nor members of the Guild are able to answer any questions about this study.

About the study

The Crozier one-name study began when I was trying to find my own Crozier ancestors. I was convinced that Crozier was such an uncommon name that all the Croziers in Essex (where my ancestors are from) were related, if I could just go back far enough. And so, I began making notes about all the Croziers I found while researching my family tree, and the study grew out of that. I registered the name with the Guild of One Name studies in 2004.

Variant names

Crozier is often interchanged with Crosier, which is one of the variants I study. I also study CROZER and CROSOER. There are a couple of other spellings which sound like Crozier that I also intermittently collect (Croyser being one)

Data

I have collected almost complete UK GRO index information, birth, death and marriages for the Crozier name and variants from 1837 to 2000. I'm currently in the process of extracting records from parish records, starting with Essex. I have extracted from Cressing, Little Canfield, Takeley, Great Waltham, Writtle, Little Waltham and am due to start on Broomfield and Stisted soon. I've extracted also records from St Peter the Apostle, Thanet, Kent. I am also in the process of gathering the census records, and meanwhile I have access to the 1841, 51, 61, 71, 81, 91, 1901 UK and all the US census. I have copies of the 1881 Scottish census and the NBI to help me.
