About the Critchard One-Name Study

We have recently started a one name study of the Critchard name and acquired acertain amount of information, but would be grateful to receive more. Can we help you and you help us to discover more about the name and its locations.

We started with the variants of Critchard, Chritchard, Crichard & Chrichard, but have now discovered there are many others.

Origin of the surname

We are still researching the origin but the earliest record we have found so far is in Devon.

Distribution of the name

In the 1881 Census there were only 76 recorded names spread from Axmouth, Norton Fitzwarren to London. The name is found mostly in East Devon and Dorset although there are in London and Manchester areas.

We have data from Parish Records, Censuses etc but would be pleased to hear of more.
