I first started researching the Bartholomew name as part of our Family History.
The name Bartholomew is my wife's maternal ancestry.
Bartholomew is generally thought to have derived from the Aramaic name meaning 'son of Tholmai' or 'son of the furrows', meaning one who is rich in land or maybe a ploughman.
There are a number of famous Bartholomews, including:-
Saint Bartholomew, one of the 12 Apostles of Jesus and John Bartholomew, the founder of the famous map publishing company, John Bartholomew & Company, now know as Collins Bartholomew.
