About the Appleby One-Name Study

The Appleby Research Organisation (ARO) was set up in 1991 and has, probably, the largest database of Appleby records in the World. In addition to the International Genealogical Index we have extracts from Parish Records, the UK General Record Office, Census Returns, US Social Security Index, Immigration Records, Wills, Military and Criminal records as well as pedigrees and research material submitted by our members and friends. It is a global record of family pedigrees compiled over many years. It does not include living persons.

DNA project

I am excited to announce that the Appleby Research Organisation has established the APPLEBY DNA PROJECT at Family Tree DNA of Houston, Texas, USA. and is ready for participants to join.

The Y DNA test tells you about your direct male line, which would be your father, grandfather and back in time. You must be a male to take this test, and you should have one of the surnames shown above. If you believe there is an Appleby or one of the variants in your male direct line, although you have a different surname, you are also welcome to join.
