The Guild organises a number of seminars and conferences every year as part of its remit to advance the education of the public in both one-name studies specifically and in the wider subject of genealogy generally. Both Guild members and non-members are welcome to attend. In addition to the events the Guild organises, there are also other events globally which the Guild attends as sponsors or presenters, or by the presence of the Guild Stand at Family History Fairs, Shows, or Open Days.

At local Family History Fairs the Guild Stand is usually represented by a local Guild member; if you are a Guild member, and are able to assist with the Guild Stand at any of the events shown below, (even if only for a short time during the day) your help would be much appreciated. 	1st June 2013 Sheffield, Yorkshire, UK	Sheffield and District Family History Fair 1867 Lounge at Sheffield Wednesday Football Club, Hillsborough, Sheffield Following the success of the 2012 event, the Sheffield & District Family History Fair is now to be an annual event, and the Guild will be present.
	8th June 2013 Newport, Monmouthshire, Wales	Gwent Family History Society Open Day Rougemont School, Llantamam Hall, Malpas Road, Newport NP20 6QB 10.00am - 3.00pm Back for 2013 in a new venue, the Gwent FHS Open Day promises to be a great event, with many exhibitors including the Guild.
	15th June 2013 Wilton, Wiltshire, UK	Wiltshire Family History Society Open Day Wilton Community Centre, West Street, Wilton, Salisbury, SP2 0DG 10.00am - 3.30pm Featuring exhibitors including the Guild and two free lectures: "Making sense of the Census" by Jean Bunting of Census Detectives, and "Breaking down brick walls" by Mark Bayley of S&N Genealogy Supplies.
	29th June 2013 York, Yorkshire, UK	The Yorkshire Family History Fair Knavesmire Exhibition Centre at York Racecourse, York 10.00am - 4.30pm With exhibitors from all over the UK and Ireland, this is probably the largest event of its kind in England. Many family history societies, and companies like Ancestry.co.uk and findmypast.co.uk plus lots more. Lots of local history from the York area too. You don't have to have Yorkshire Ancestors to come to this fair - they can be from anywhere at all. Everyone is very welcome and there is lots to see - stay all day! Plenty of parking and refreshments are available all day. The exhibitors are spread over three floors. There are several lifts to take you to the upper levels, and the whole place is wheelchair friendly. This fair is organised by family historians for family historians. This is their 18th year here in York, and it gets ever more popular.
	13th July 2013 Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset, UK	South-West Area Group (SWAG) Family History Fair Winter Gardens, Royal Parade, Weston-super-Mare, Somerset 10.00am - 4.00pm The 2013 Fair organised by the South West Area Group of Family History Societies will have a number of local and national societies attending, and the Guild will be there with the Stand.
	27th July 2013 Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, UK	Buckinghamshire Family History Society Open Day The Grange School, Wendover Way, Aylesbury, HP21 7NH 10.00am - 4.00pm As always, this free event will have something for everyone - whether beginner or experienced researcher - and wherever your ancestors came from. All of the Society's research libraries will be available, including our Buckinghamshire names database, now containing well over five million entries. Parish register transcripts and other Society publications will be on sale, and there will be lots of help and advice from friendly, experienced family historians. You'll be able to talk to representatives of guest societies from around the country, and a wide range of suppliers of maps and books, software, archival materials and other services will be waiting to fulfill your needs.
	10th August 2013 Amersham, Buckinghamshire, UK	The Art of One-Name Studies Seminar Amersham Free Church, Woodside Road, Amersham, Buckinghamshire HP6 6AJ Two years on and we return to Amersham for our latest version of "How to do it" - how to run your one-name study, of course. Having listened to the Guild membership we shall obtain speakers who have a particular specialism in aspects of researching an ONS, especially following the Guild's "Seven Pillars of Wisdom" maxim.
	24th August 2013 Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, Scotland, UK	Lanarkshire Family and Local History Show Civic Centre, Motherwell, ML1 1AB, Scotland 10.00am - 4.30pm Part of "Celebrating Lanarkshire 2013", a year long celebration of all that is good in both North and South Lanarkshire. Speakers and stands throughout the day, with over 50 exhibitors.
	6th - 8th September 2013 Hinckley, Leicestershire, UK	The Halsted Trust's Second International Genealogy Conference: "Exodus: Movement of the People" Hinckley Island Hotel, nr Hinckley, Leicestershire The Guild are among the sponsors of the Halsted Trust's Conference this year, on the theme of British Migration from, to and within the British Isles. The Conference will take place in a comfortable and modern hotel near Hinckley, Leicestershire, and the programme will include two streams of talks and presentations from internationally known genealogists and historians.
	7th September 2013 Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Tyne and Wear, UK	The National Family History Fair 2013 Tyne Suite, Newcastle Central Premier Inn, Newbridge Street, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 8BS 10.00am - 4.00pm This is one of Britain's most prestigious history events, held again in the Newcastle area. Find out who you are at the family history experience! Help and advice from all the experts! Admission price: £3.50.
	14th September 2013 Blackburn, Lancashire, UK	Lancashire Family History Fair King Georges Hall, Northgate, Blackburn BB2 1AA 10.00am - 4.00pm This event combines the Lancashire Family History & Heraldy Society's 40th Anniversary with the North-West Group of Family History Societies Fair, and will have around 100 stalls from a range of family history societies including the Guild, trade stalls including bookstalls, website operators, specialist printers, DNA testing and local Record Offices, Archives and Register Offices.
	12th October 2013 Merthyr Tydfill, Wales, UK	Glamorgan Family History Fair Merthyr Tydfill Leisure Centre, Merthyr Tydfill, CF48 1UT, Wales 10.00am - 4.00pm Friendly experts with local knowledge available to help with all queries including the Guild stand. A wide variety of stalls - Welsh and English family history societies, military experts, family tree charts, genealogy supplies, old post cards, old maps, local and family history books and so much more.
	18th - 20th October RDS Showgrounds, Dublin 4, Ireland	Senior Times Over 50's Show and Back To Our Past RDS Showgrounds, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4, Ireland The popular Back To Our Past event is happening again this year in conjunction with the Senior Times Over 50's Show, and the Guild stand will be there to give advice and information.

	16th November 2013 Kew, Richmond, Surrey, UK	Colonial Sources Seminar The National Archives, Kew, Richmond, Surrey, TW9 4DU Many Guild members have found persons with their ONS name in the former colonies of the British Empire. Together with The National Archives specialists, we have put together a set of talks on finding that missing person, or new holder of your study surname, who may appear in the remote and not so remote colonies.
	15th March 2014 Poole, Dorset, UK	Dorset Family History Society Family History Day Parkstone Grammar School, Sopers Lane, Poole BH17 7EP The theme will be "Find your ancestors caught up in WWI - Commemoration of the start of the Great War". Represented will be local WWI organisations (Western Front Association and similar) and the local (Bovington) Tank Museum. Also invited - local Regimental Museums and Services Associations. All this in addition to many County FHS and commercial organisations. We shall be looking at how the lives of all, all ages and all classes, were affected by the War.
