Event Calendar

The Guild organises a number of seminars and conferences every year as part of its remit to advance the education of the public in both one-name studies specifically and in the wider subject of genealogy generally. Both Guild members and non-members are welcome to attend. Booking for each event normally opens immediately after the previous event. In addition, there are other events, both in the UK and around the world, where the Guild or Guild members are represented, for instance as sponsors or presenters, or by the presence of the Guild Stand at Family History Fairs, Shows, or Open Days. Click to show ALL events below.


	19th May 2012 Shropshire	Guild Seminar: Ironbridge Gorge Industrial Revolution Seminar Coalbrookdale and Ironbridge Community Centre, 2 Wellington Road, Coalbrookdale, Telford, Shropshire, TF8 7DX. Where better to study the effects of the Industrial Revolution on our family history; how it affected the movement of population and the spread of surnames around the country during this period? We shall be presenting talks by leading experts in the field, with, of course, some local specialist subject matter.

	18th August 2012 Epsom, Surrey	Guild Computer Seminar Rosebery School, White Horse Drive, Epsom, Surrey, KT 7NQ POSTPONED. Due to the proximity ot the 2012 Olympics, and problems with logistics and organisation, the committee has decided to cancel the August hands-on computer seminar at Epsom. The Guild are sorry about this as it has always been very popular. We have made it our aim to hold a replacement computer seminar as soon as possible.

	17th November 2012 London	Maritime Records Seminar National Maritime Museum, Park Row, Greenwich, London SE10 9NF What better place than the National Maritime Museum at Greenwich for a maritime seminar! We have been able to obtain the services of the top specialists in the field. Between them they will explain where to find details of mariners from the Royal Navy, the Royal Marines and the Merchant Navy.

	1st December 2012 Gaydon, Warwickshire	Why be a Society in the 21st Century? Heritage Motor Centre, Banbury Road, Gaydon, Warwickshire CV35 0BJ The Guild of One-Name Studies and the Federation of Family History Societies jointly present this seminar on the theme of One-Name Societies.

	9th February 2013 Cheltenham	DNA Seminar We shall be returning to the excellent facilities of the National Star College, used for the previous DNA Seminar in February 2010. The Guild DNA Forum team will be assembling a series of talks that will bring you right up to date with the latest developments, including a mention of Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) for the female side of our genealogy.

	5th - 7th April 2013 Cardiff	Guild 2013 AGM and Conference : "Around England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales in 8,000 names" Copthorne Hotel, Copthorne Way, Culverhouse Cross, Cardiff CF5 6DH.

	18th May 2013 Coventry	Trade Union Records Seminar Modern Records Centre, University of Warwick, Coventry, CV4 7AL The Seminar will feature Friendly Society records with the focus on the Forresters Society and Trade Union Records with the focus on records held at the Modern Records Centre which may assist us with our ONS. The Centre may also offer us, for those interested, the opportunity of a tour.
